Location and requirements
Training Locations
• Online learning through the American Red Cross platform
• In-person skills sessions at designated training facilities

You must be at least 15 years of age by the last day of the course attended.

You must successfully complete a pre-course screening.

You must pass a written test with the score of at least 80%.

Swim-Tread-Swim Sequence
• Swim 150 yards continuously using front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both.
• Tread water for 2 minutes using only your legs.
• Swim an additional 50 yards continuously using front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both.
Brick Retrieval Test
• Swim 20 yards without stopping.
• Surface dive to retrieve a 10-pound brick from a depth of 7 to 10 feet.
• Return to the surface and swim 20 yards back while holding the brick.
• Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
